Safety Abroad

Students participating in the Study Abroad Program are required to attend a safety presentation during the spring semester.  A representative from WFU’s Police Department will be on hand to discuss safety while traveling and living abroad.At this meeting we also discuss various tips about getting ready for your departure.

Passports

You must have a passport in order to travel abroad. If you already have a passport, make sure your expiration date is at least 6 months after your return from studying abroad. If you need to apply for a passport, please visit the U.S. State Department’s website for instructions on applying for a passport.

U.S. State Department Information

Information about travel to the United Kingdom, Italy and Austria can be obtained from the U.S. State Department. In particular, you should feel free to consult (and check before traveling) the website for Country Specific Information for each of these countries.

If before one of our programs commences a U.S. State Department Travel Warning or Alert is issued for the country where the program is conducted, we will notify all students enrolled in that program of the warning and give you an opportunity to withdraw from the program. If you withdraw in these circumstances, we will refund all moneys you have paid; the refund will be made within 20 days after your withdrawal.

You should also know that European cities are not as accessible to individuals with disabilities as many U.S. cities, this is particularly so for Venice. If you are concerned about this, please contact us.
